Sometimes I find it difficult to maintain the spirit of joy and happiness that comes around the Christmas season. My family has been experiencing financial difficulties due to some poor decisions from years past. It’s looking like Christmas this year will be a very small celebration.

Maybe this year their gift to us is more than something material. Maybe they feel our pain and are trying to ease our suffering, even though it’s not what they truly want. God has truly blessed us with wonderful children.

If you’re struggling with finances leading up to this Christmas season, please know you’re not alone. If you can’t give any gifts from a store, you can still give the gift of love and memories. Until I started writing this post, I wasn’t even thinking of the grace our kids were showing to us while preparing their lists.

This grace from our children is a reminder of the greatest grace that anyone’s ever given; when Jesus was gifted to the Earth, it was the greatest gift of grace that anyone could ever give. I can’t help but be thankful for the grace shown by our kids and even more, the grace shown by our savior.

Ultimately, the feeling of knowing grace is the eternal spirit of Christmas. Once that falls into perspective, it helps to remove the material spirit of Christmas.

It’s hard to believe that there is only one month remaining until Christmas! It seems just like yesterday that we were celebrating last Christmas. Maybe that’s because I always have something around the house to remind me about Christmas. Maybe it’s because I always have Christmas music playing. Maybe it’s because I’m surrounded by love year-round! Whatever the reason, I love this season!

When I think about the upcoming Christmas holiday, it encourages me when I look around and see symbols of the season everywhere. For me, there’s always a reminder around the house. Maybe I “forgot” to put up a decoration. Maybe I stashed some Christmas candy somewher only to forget about it and find it later. These are little gifts I send to my future self either intentionally or accidentally!

Though gifts are great, I think the music of the season can be a blessing year-round as well. Whether I’m singing “In the Bleak Midwinter” in the spring, “Let It Snow” in the summer, “Old King Wenceslaus” in the fall, or all of the tunes in the winter, there’s never a bad time to think about Christmas. It reminds us of the feelings this time of year can bring.

The greatest feeling of all is the love that surrounds us during Christmas. It could be the love of family. It could be the love of friends. But I am most reminded of the greatest gift of love that was ever given, the birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior sent to Earth for all of us here.

Let’s all remember to enjoy this season and not get lost in the busy-ness or commercialism. We are where we are, when we are for a purpose. Let’s go celebrate!

In the realm of Christmas carols, “The Holly and the Ivy” stands as a melodic testimony to the Christian message, weaving together the timeless symbols of holly and ivy with profound spiritual meaning. As believers celebrate the advent of Jesus Christ, this carol serves as a harmonic reminder of faith, sacrifice, and the redemptive narrative that defines the Christmas story. In this exploration, we’ll delve into the Christian symbolism encapsulated in the verses of “The Holly and the Ivy,” uncovering the rich tapestry of faith woven into its musical notes.

1. Holly: An Emblem of Christ’s Sacrifice: The holly, with its vibrant green leaves and red berries, takes center stage in the carol as a poignant symbol of Christ’s sacrifice. The prickly leaves mirror the crown of thorns worn by Jesus, and the red berries represent the drops of his blood. Through the melody, believers are invited to reflect on the sacrifice made for their redemption and the promise of eternal life that resonates with the Christian faith.

2. Ivy: Representing Unity and Eternal Life: Intertwined with holly, ivy plays a supporting role in the carol, symbolizing unity and endurance. The evergreen vines of ivy, which withstand the changing seasons, mirror the enduring strength of faith. As believers sing of the holly and the ivy, they are reminded of the unity found in Christian fellowship and the promise of eternal life that Christ’s birth brings.

3. Wreaths and Decorations: The imagery of holly and ivy in wreaths and Christmas decorations is vividly painted in the carol’s verses. As believers adorn their homes with these evergreen symbols, they participate in a visual expression of faith and celebration. The wreaths, much like those described in the carol, become sacred emblems that adorn doorways and spaces with Christian symbolism, fostering an atmosphere of spiritual reflection and joy.

4. Carol as a Liturgical Reflection: “The Holly and the Ivy” is not merely a festive tune; it has found its place in Christian liturgy, becoming a reflection of the Christmas story within the worship setting. Churches incorporate this carol into their Advent and Christmas services, allowing congregations to engage in a melodic journey through the Christian narrative of redemption and hope.

5. Musical Reflections of Faith: The melody of “The Holly and the Ivy” carries a timeless quality, inviting believers to participate in the musical heritage of Christian worship. As voices join in harmony, the carol becomes a communal expression of faith, resonating with the deeper spiritual truths embedded in its verses.

“The Holly and the Ivy” carol, with its poetic lyrics and enchanting melody, encapsulates the Christian symbolism of holly and ivy, inviting believers to sing and reflect on the profound truths of the Christmas narrative. Through its verses, this musical masterpiece becomes a harmonious expression of faith, sacrifice, and the enduring hope found in the birth of Jesus Christ. As believers engage in the timeless tradition of singing this carol, they partake in a sacred melody that echoes the redemptive message of Christmas throughout the ages.

There are many songs which use the title of “Christmas Everyday.” This is the spirit of all that we embrace here where there’s Not Enough Christmas. I’m not sure if it’s the message or the talent, but Unspoken’s song “Christmas Everyday” is just one of the many different songs which share that name, but it’s my favorite.

Redirecting our thoughts and actions towards others can be a gratifying experience. I’m not saying that you should do it to make yourself feel good, but that might be a welcome side-effect. If we don’t focus only on ourselves, but also on those around us, the world will be a brighter place for all.

Outside it may be so cold
But if you got the love inside
Then you can feel your soul glow

Unspoken “Christmas Everyday”

This is a good reminder that love for others should be what we strive for. This time of the year, it’s not about gifts. It’s not about wish lists. It’s about celebrating life with each other and praising God for sending His son. If we can capture this feeling throughout the year, that would be Christmas Everyday!

As Christmas draws near, Christians around the world rejoice in the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. This season is a time of reflection, gratitude, and togetherness, often accompanied by the joyful tradition of watching Christmas movies. One such film that has taken its place among holiday classics is “The Grinch” (2018), a modern animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ timeless tale. In this review, we’ll explore how “The Grinch” speaks to Christian values, offering a fresh perspective on the beloved Christmas curmudgeon from a Christian lens.

A Story of Transformation: At its core, “The Grinch” is a story of transformation—a theme deeply rooted in Christian teachings. The Grinch takes audiences on a journey from a heart hardened by bitterness to one softened by love and redemption. This transformation mirrors the Christian belief in the transformative power of God’s love and the opportunity for renewal and salvation through faith in Christ.

Whoville’s Resilient Faith: In Whoville, the fictional town where “The Grinch” is set, we witness a community characterized by resilience, hope, and an unwavering faith in the true spirit of Christmas. As Christians, we recognize these qualities as reflections of our own faith, emphasizing the importance of love, kindness, and forgiveness, which are central to the teachings of Jesus.

The Grinch’s Redemption: The Grinch’s journey from stealing Christmas to embracing it is a powerful metaphor for the Christian message of repentance and forgiveness. In the film, the Grinch’s heart grows three sizes as he realizes the error of his ways, demonstrating that even those who have strayed from the path of righteousness can find redemption through a change of heart.

The Joy of Giving: “The Grinch” underscores the joy of giving rather than receiving, a message deeply aligned with Christian principles. As Christians, we are called to imitate Christ’s selfless love by giving to others and spreading the message of hope and salvation, especially during the Christmas season.

A Call to Community: Whoville’s close-knit community is a reminder of the importance of fellowship and togetherness among believers. The film encourages us to come together with our families and communities to celebrate the birth of Jesus, just as the Whos in Whoville gather to celebrate Christmas with love and unity.

“The Grinch” (2018) offers a fresh perspective on the classic tale, emphasizing themes of transformation, faith, and the true spirit of Christmas that resonate deeply with Christian values. It serves as a heartwarming reminder that, like the Grinch, all of us have the potential for redemption and renewal through God’s love. This adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ beloved story not only entertains but also inspires Christians to embrace the core teachings of their faith during the holiday season and throughout the year. As you watch “The Grinch” this Christmas, may it serve as a reminder of the enduring message of love, hope, and redemption that lies at the heart of the Christian faith.

The Birth of a Savior: The opening lines of “O Holy Night” immediately draw us into the heart of the Christmas story: “O holy night! The stars are brightly shining. It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth.” This carol beautifully encapsulates the wonder and joy of that miraculous night when Jesus, the Savior of humanity, entered the world. It serves as a powerful reminder of the hope and redemption found in Christ’s birth.

A World in Darkness: The carol goes on to describe the state of the world before Christ’s arrival, using the metaphor of a “world in sin and error pining.” It paints a vivid picture of humanity’s spiritual need, emphasizing the darkness and despair that prevailed. This bleak backdrop sets the stage for the transformative message of the carol.

The Thrill of Hope: As “O Holy Night” progresses, it shifts from depicting the darkness to celebrating the arrival of hope. The line, “A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,” captures the essence of Christmas—a moment of profound transformation when hope enters the human heart. This hope is not a fleeting emotion but a profound, lasting change that Christ’s birth brings to our lives.

The Fall on Your Knees: One of the most powerful moments in the carol is the instruction to “fall on your knees.” It serves as a call to worship and reverence, recognizing the significance of the Savior’s birth. It reminds us that the proper response to the birth of Jesus is awe, humility, and surrender.

The Divine Gift of Redemption: “O Holy Night” concludes with the message that Christ’s birth brings redemption and salvation: “Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever. His power and glory evermore proclaim.” It reminds us that through Christ, we have been given the ultimate gift—the opportunity to be reconciled with God and to experience His love and grace.

Conclusion: “O Holy Night” is not just a beautiful Christmas carol; it’s a profound declaration of the transformative power of Christ’s birth. It invites us to reflect on the darkness that once consumed our lives and the incredible hope, redemption, and salvation found in the birth of our Savior. As we sing this timeless carol, let us remember the message it conveys and allow it to deepen our appreciation of the true meaning of Christmas—God’s incredible love for humanity, manifested in the birth of Jesus Christ.

Christmas, a sacred season that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, fills our hearts with joy and gratitude. As believers, we are drawn to the divine significance of this holiday, and it’s a time when we reflect on the boundless blessings bestowed upon us by the Lord. In this blog post, we’ll explore the spiritual depth of Christmas and examine why, from a Christian perspective, there’s an unquenchable thirst for more of its heavenly grace.

The Radiance of the Nativity Scene: The Nativity scene, with its humble manger and radiant star, captures the essence of Jesus’ birth. Yet, every year, we find ourselves seeking new ways to depict this sacred event in our homes and churches. The desire to bask in the divine radiance of the Nativity inspires us to create even more awe-inspiring displays.

Adorned with Love for Christ: The decorations that adorn our homes at Christmas are more than just festive trimmings; they are expressions of our love for Christ. We yearn to decorate our spaces with symbols of faith – crosses, angels, and nativity scenes. The drive to honor our Savior often leads to embellishments that reflect the depth of our devotion.

The Gift of Christ’s Love: Christmas is a time to commemorate the greatest gift ever given – the gift of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. As we exchange presents with our loved ones, we recognize that this act of giving mirrors God’s love for us. The Christian heart continually seeks to share Christ’s love, prompting us to give more and share the gospel’s message more fervently.

Singing His Praises: Hymns and carols take on a profound significance during Christmas as we lift our voices in praise of the Lord. However, the wealth of Christian songs and carols reminds us that there’s always more to sing and more of God’s glory to proclaim.

The Feast of Faith: Christmas feasting is a time-honored tradition, and the Christian perspective emphasizes the spiritual nourishment that accompanies this physical celebration. As we gather for meals, we remember that Jesus is the Bread of Life and the Living Water. This awareness inspires us to deepen our faith and share spiritual sustenance with others.

Abundant Acts of Charity: Christmas is a season of generosity and selflessness, echoing Christ’s teachings to love our neighbors as ourselves. The call to give to those in need is a testament to Christ’s love for humanity. As Christians, we are motivated to serve others and make a positive impact in our communities, and this desire to give knows no bounds.

Conclusion: In the Christian faith, Christmas is a profound and eternal celebration of God’s love and grace. It’s a time when we seek to draw closer to the Lord, to deepen our faith, and to share His love with others. The unquenchable thirst for Christmas is a testament to our unwavering desire to experience more of God’s divine presence and to spread His love throughout the world. In this eternal quest for spiritual growth and devotion, we find the true meaning of Christmas – the celebration of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, who brings boundless blessings to our lives.

It has already been 100 days since the last Christmas was here. My how time flies! Of course, that also means it is only 265 days until the next one!

Pop Quiz! How many of us remember what we received for Christmas? I must admit that sometimes it is difficult for me to remember also. I remember receiving a wok and related tools in 2021. As I’m writing this, I have just remembered that in 2022 I received a gift basket with some delicious pasta, sauce, and related sundries. If you can’t tell, I love food!

Another question… Do you remember something special that you gifted to someone else? It could have been for a spouse, a child, a parent, a friend, or maybe even an acquaintance. I hope you have at least one memorable gifting. I remember gifting a Nintendo Switch to our children when they thought we couldn’t afford one. The joy on their faces was unforgettable! I also remember gifting a five-picture frame to my wife with pictures of our family. I didn’t remember the year, but my wife says it was 2014.

My memory of the joy is an unparalleled reason I would recommend to anyone to put some serious thought into the gifts you give. Whether it’s for Christmas, a birthday, or just a way to say “I love you.” It’s pretty easy to go pick up a gift card or drop some cash in a card, but the feeling just isn’t the same.

Remember, It’s never too early to start thinking about the upcoming Christmas season!

“Hark! the Herald Angels Sing” is a beloved Christmas carol that has been popular for over 200 years. The song was written by Charles Wesley, one of the founders of Methodism, in 1739.
“Peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled.” – This line emphasizes the message of peace and reconciliation that Jesus brings to the world. It reminds us that through his birth, God has shown mercy to sinners and offered the promise of peace on earth.

“Hark! the herald angels sing, ‘Glory to the newborn King!'” – The opening line of the song announces the good news of Jesus’ birth and the glory that he brings to the world. The use of the word “hark” is meant to grab the listener’s attention and draw them into the story.

“Mild He lays His glory by, born that man no more may die.” – This line refers to the humility of Jesus’ birth, as he “lays his glory by” to become human. It also highlights the significance of Jesus’ birth, as he came to offer eternal life to humanity.

Author: Charles Wesley

Overall, “Hark! the Herald Angels Sing” is a powerful reminder of the true meaning of Christmas and the joy that comes with celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Its lyrics offer a message of hope, peace, and reconciliation that is just as relevant today as it was over 280 years ago.

The holiday season has officially come to a close and for many of us, it’s hard to let go of the festive spirit. The twinkling lights, the delicious food, and the time spent with loved ones are all things we’ll miss as we say goodbye to Christmas.

As we pack away the decorations and get back to our daily routine, it’s easy to feel a sense of disappointment that the magic of the holiday season is over. But why should it be? Just because Christmas Day has passed, it doesn’t mean the spirit of the season has to end.

One way to keep the Christmas spirit alive is by incorporating small touches of holiday cheer into your everyday life. This could be as simple as keeping a Christmas decoration or two on display year-round, or even listening to holiday music as you go about your day.

Another way to prolong the holiday spirit is by staying connected with loved ones. The holidays are a time for family and friends to come together, and just because the calendar says it’s over, it doesn’t mean the relationships have to end. Plan a get-together with loved ones, even if it’s just a small gathering, to keep the festive spirit alive.

Lastly, take time to reflect on the memories and moments of the holiday season. Whether it was a special gift, a delicious meal, or a heartfelt conversation, these memories will stay with us forever.

Just because Christmas is over, it doesn’t mean the magic has to end. Incorporating small touches of holiday cheer into our daily lives, staying connected with loved ones and reflecting on the memories of the holiday season, will help us to prolong the festive spirit.
